ABOUT THE EVENT

Mechelle will share the results of the archaeological data recovery at sites 38FL116, 38FL506, and 38FL513 in Florence County. Topics will include:

  • Review archeological data recovered from sites in Florence County, SC.
  • Over 7,300 artifacts were recovered, revealing evidence of prehistoric occupations from the Middle Archaic to Mississippian periods.
  • Site 38FL116 showed the most intensive occupation with a high artifact density and diverse tool assemblage.
  • Highlights include a Middle Archaic pit feature at 38FL116, primary use of metavolcanics from the Uwharrie Mountains, and a variety of lithic and ceramic artifacts.
